I’m sorry to tell you that the world isn’t queuing up to come to your website to read your content. It’s harsh to hear, I know, but unless you’re Oprah or The Huffington Post or one of the Kardashians, nobody really cares about your stuff. You’re going to have to PROMOTE YOUR CONTENT – and there are heaps of interesting ways to do this.
Unfortunately, your great content might be falling on deaf ears and if you don’t promote it instead of hearing a mighty woosh of traffic to your site all you’ll hear is crickets.
Let’s explore how you can tell the world about the new content you’ve just published.
How to promote your content
Take a look at some of these ways you can make your content more visible:
Build a subscriber list and email them new content
Every online marketer and affiliate marketer knows the money is in the list. Make sure you grow your own list of subscribers and email them your new content – just make sure it’s great content or you’ll be added to the unsubscribe or spam list.
Syndicate your content
Content syndication is when you distribute your content through other blogs or websites – either as a headline, a snippet of your content or the full article.
Mention an influencer in your industry and let him or her know
You can quite easily find influencers using Google, Twitter or https://idb.buzzstream.com/.
Once you’ve identified an influencer, connect with them, ask them questions and their thoughts about an article you’re writing. Ask if you can quote them. Once you’ve published the article send it to them for feedback and ask them to share.
Ask your peers for feedback and to share
Your peers include your colleagues and other people in your industry who you’re connected with. Ask them what they think of your article and then ask them to share it with their own communities.
Identify the distribution channels that work best for you
Not all distribution channels work best for your industry or topic. Experiment and see what works best for you.
Publish snippets to Medium, LinkedIn or Quora
You can get great exposure to your content by sharing it on authority sites such as Medium, LinkedIn or Quora. Your readers in these networks will provide their own thoughts and ideas and give you valuable feedback (and shares).
Post and repost to social media
Your great, evergreen content can be shared multiple times across a number of social networks. Not sure which one to pick? Experiment and see what works best. Remember to reshare a few times (but not too frequently or you will come across as a spammer).
You can try the following networks depending on your industry:
- Your owned social communities
- YouTube or Vimeo
- Your own podcast
Submit your content to a community in your niche
There are loads of interesting and active communities across all interests. Find one relevant to your topic, get involved with the community and share. Don’t only share YOUR content but be generous and share other people’s content too.
- LinkedIn Groups
- Facebook Groups
- Google+ Communities and Collections
- Niche social networks
Add Click to Tweet, Pin It and other social sharing buttons
You really need to make it easy for people to share your content. Add social media sharing links and buttons to your content and make it convenient for people to help promote your content.
The key is to write content they’ll find valuable and then make it easy to share.
Share to forums
Take a look at the sites below, get involved with the conversations there and share your useful content.
Other ways you can promote your content
You can make your brand and your content more visible:
- Be a guest on a podcast show
- Syndicate your content to large news publications
- Do guest posts for other bloggers and link to your site
